The Show
DrumStory takes us on a journey through time and lets us experience the sounds and rhythms of ancient civilisations as we pursue the connection between man and Mother Nature.
Our main character, The sound of Innocence plays a very important role throughout the entire story as it guides us throughout time.
In the beginning he leads us from the primitive age, to a joyous African tribe who drum playful, spontaneous and energetic rhythms, to ancient Egypt where we are captivated by power and life.
The rhythm and power of the beat is present throughout the journey, and envelops everyone. As we immerse ourselves into the African folklore and conviviality, the harmony becomes shattered as the tribe is suddenly enslaved by unknown captors.
The rhythm and beat change to reflect the sadness and despair of the captured souls. The scene is transformed to one of anger and pain as man struggles his way through power play and war. Imprisoned in a world of oppression and control, despair slowly turns to hatred.
These seeds finally take hold within the hearts of the oppressed and they stand in defiance. They rebel, and the antagonists are forced to flee in a crescendo of drumming. Two sides battle for dominance in a choreographed melee (with percussion instruments as weapons).
Revolution erupts and a full-scale war begins, culminating in a cataclysmic end to the world as we know it. There is no beat, and no rhythm, but through the eyes of the child a new generation of sound evolves.
Amongst the wasteland, the Sound of Innocence can be heard, quietly at first, as the beat is reborn, fighting for every breath against the desolate norm. A new war emerges, which can only be saved by the Voice of Innocence who constructs a crude assortment of debris and rubbish to express his and humanity’s emotions through the beat of a drum.
